Hong Kong 2009: Day 5
There is a huge opportunity for those looking for toy industry talent. I have in the last few days received news that three veteran toy sales and marketing managers are in the job market. Why, because banks are dramatically cutting back on credit and forcing toy companies to cut costs in order to maintain their loans. The quickest way to cut costs is to cut payroll, and in this case the companies had to cut well into their muscle.
These individuals are solid performers, in their prime and wherever they end up they will be bringing with them a wealth of contacts, knowledge, skills and abilities. Smart toy companies who want to take their game up to the next level will therefore be able to steal talent they could never have hoped to grab. This could cut years off their growth plans and solidly position them as leaders in the new toy economy that is emerging.
After spending close to a week in Hong Kong I can tell you that creative destruction is fully at work and those who have a vision for their future and a drive to make it happen will see these times as the opportunity they are. These are scary times, these are exciting times these are our times. Grab hold and ride!
