Comic-Con and the toy industry; what’s Strawberry Shortcake doing there?
I
It is interesting to see how Hasbro and some other toy companies are thinking across all platforms when marketing their products. In a Media Decoder article entitled, "Comic-Con tries wholesome," we learn that Hasbro used this venue to launch a special edition of, of all things, Strawberry Shortcake at the just completed San Diego Comic-Con. With 125,000 people visiting it last year, it is a powerful way to create buzz.
Why was Strawberry Shortcake at Comic-Con? As the article put it, Comic-Con has grown to include "...video games, big-budget Hollywood movies, action figures, fantasy novels and horror." It's about time more mainstream toys and girls products got into the act.
According to the article, "Hasbro said that the character was making her Comic-Con debut as part of a 30th anniversary marketing push. Planned for the coming months are a new toy line, an animated series (on Hasbro's forthcoming cable channel) and a direct-to-DVD movie."
I wouldn't be surprised to see more toy companies use Comic-Con to get their message out. Will you be exhibiting or attending Comic-Con next year?

I'm not surprised to see Hasbro showcasing Strawberry Shortcake at the con. Shoot... they've been marketing My Little Pony at the Comic Con for the past several years now.

Hi Richard, This has nothing to do with Comic- Con, but I have to ask what you think of the results of the Bratts/Mattel ruling today (July 28th)? Please write your thoughts about it.
