Great Toy Design: The Bauhaus Chess Set

September 9, 2010

Chess

The German Bauhaus school of architecture and design had a tremendous impact on 20th century architecture and furniture. Interestingly, it also showed up in a wonderful chess set created by Josef Hartwig in 1923 and still available today. It's made from maple and beech and its simplicity is really stunning. I found it on two websites selling from $310 to $399.

Toys featured in my Great Toy Design postings are from the book Toy Design by Chris van Uffelen.
