Kudos to you...

... All you retailers and manufacturers for making an online effort!

When Facebook and Twitter receive honorable mentions on headline news, there's a sign to move forward in marketing. While learning something new isn't always easy...we're here to help!

Why am I a firm believer in online marketing? Like many of you, I owned a retail store for over 10 years. Encompassing a clothing boutique and interior design firm, Ambiance Interiors & Gifts was located just north of Atlanta in thriving Suwanee, Georgia. In efforts to save cash in the marketing department, we often left our comfort zone and wet our feet with the latest in marketing.

In 2003, I toyed with social media marketing on MySpace. Of course, the marketing was geared to 10-15 year olds who played with Webkinz online. Quickly, those tweens and teens spread word like wild fire; they chatted and shared like nobody's business. Parents were lugging them into our store for the latest Webkinz, and discovering the best gift store in the southeast. Many patrons had passed the pink 1870's historic house, tucked amoungst the gigantic oak trees, they just hadn't stopped. That is, until their teenager wouldn't stop talking about the PINK HOUSE and POLKA DOTTED Hummer dubbed "Dottie" that their friends were talking about on MySpace!

When our young patrons arrived with parents carrying cash and credit cards, buying more than the Webkinz they came after, we soon began to reanalyze all of our marketing. Replacing print ad campaigns with complimentary polka dotted gift wrap, online marketing campaigns, a new website, and later Facebook and Twitter. Throughout this blog, I'll be sharing tips and tactics of how I was socially successful in the retail world.

I'll also answer any questions you have regarding social media and online marketing. When you have questions, I have answers on the latest Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Groupon, Foursquare, Bebo, Friend Feed, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Brightkite, Plurk, and any other squirks you maybe experiencing. Don't know what I've just said? Just ask...I'll give you 411 that you'll be able to easily understand. As we're making our way through the world wide web, remember my motto: the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. Let's have fun and learn to get back in black with your bottom line!

A picture is worth a thousand words, include screen shots when possible. Don't know how to take a screen shot? I can help with that too! Again, just ask.

Joan Schrader - The colors in these toophs are amazing. I love the shades of red and the way the light changes them. The quilt was such a great idea. The baloons and flowers were an inspiration. The whole shoot looks like toophs of movie stars for a magazine layout! You are right about the camera loving these two beauties! Wow!Another Great Job Baby Girl! MommaApril 24, 2011 5:17 pm

Hey Christi, I just launched a page on Facebook for our gift company. Nicole Brayden Gifts. Someone suggested finding customers and sending them friend requests based on email addresses and one person in the office reacted that they didn't like the idea. Felt it was overly aggressive. Any thoughts?

Hi Christi
We met at the Las Vegas Home Show last summer and you introduced me to SnapRetail.

Primarily, I am an abstract painter and a painting teacher. I'm looking at Facebook for help in garnering leads in the interior design market specifically.

My current and ongoing questions are around how to increase and maintain my social media presence. So many things, so little time!

Thanks for your help, Christi!

Not a retailer myself, but I do rely on Facebook to turn me on to new products, like fruit bouquets

Hi Kelley,

PuTTin' OuT is my social media consulting company. I consult with businesses on how to make their social media better. From our Facebook page, I see that you're a Beauticontrol consultant. Do you have a fan page for your business/businesses? If so, you should post your product updates on that page. Our PuTTin' OuT fans on our fan page are interested in social media topics. We don't allow advertisers to post on what could be considered ads, on Facebook it's considered SPAM. I recommend that businesses remove SPAM from their pages so that it doesn't appear the page isn't maintained. You'll also want your posts and posts of your customers raving over your service and products at the top. Does that answer your question re: what PuTTin' OuT is? You can also visit the info page at: www.Facebook.com/PuTTinOuT or our website: www.PuTTinOuT.com for more information.

Hi Amy, you are right! When posting products with descriptions and stories along with your personal comments can certainly bring customers into your store instantly. It did the same for my store for many years. Keep up the good work and let me know if you have questions re: Facebook or other forms of social media marketing.

WOW! I look forward to hearing your insight on the subject! There is so much to learn and so little time! Must compose some questions for you when I can take a break and gather my thoughts! We have just explored the tip of the iceberg with social media and our store has also seen noticeable success. We have seen immediate Facebook response from customers who want to buy items they have seen there!

Thanks for the info. I post on Facebook weekly. I am still unclear as to how I can use Puttin out. Am I able to list products there or is it for information on selling only?
