Employees pay for last minute online shopping, shipping

December 15, 2008

Amazon.com’s British employees endure punishing conditions, according to the Times of London, in order to make the e-commerce site’s popular last minute holiday orders possible. These include being penalized for sick time, even with a doctor’s note, mandatory overnight overtime on top of a full work week, and quotas  few can meet.

In an age of growing consumer concern with factory working conditions, not to mention retail employees’, mom-and-pop dot-coms who provide a more humane environment for employees may find it is becoming a selling point.
