Gifts & Dec readers are a prudent bunch: if the government gives taxpayers an extra rebate to boost the economy, more than a third — 37.5 percent — plan to use the windfall to pay down debt, according to last week’s poll on www.giftsanddec.com. Almost another quarter (23.21 percent) plan to save it, and 16.07 percent plan to invest it in their business. About a fifth, or 19.64 percent, plan to spend it. If the rest of the country follows their lead, the bonanza for storeowners may be more modest than lawmakers hoped. No respondents plan to spend it on gifts — maybe they see enough of those at the office. But break out the invites and cocktail napkins: 3.57 percent plan to party!

The party’s just getting started: vote in this week’s poll.
