6. Market Runup: News About Upcoming Shows
This week we've updated news about next month's National Stationery Show, the upcoming Global Home Textiles show in Las Vegas and both the New York and Chicago summer markets. As market season gets ever closer, don't miss a single update -- check Market Runups at giftsanddec.com every week for updated news about national and international markets. Click on Gift Shows in the tool bar at the top of the page and then click on Market Previews.

7. More Marketing? Mail’s the Best Bet
When it comes to the most effective increased marketing efforts, email and direct mail are tied for first place, each claiming 21.88 percent of respondents in last week’s poll, which asked: "Which of your increased marketing efforts do you find is being the most effective in driving sales?" Next up in the best marketing effort tally are newsletters (e- or otherwise), at 15.63 percent, and Best Customer Cards at 12.5 percent. Coupons with purchase were tops for 9.38 percent of readers, and contests trailed the pack at only 6.25 percent. That leaves 12.5 percent whose most effective marketing tactic was best described as “other” — if you have a creative marketing strategy that’s outside the check box, consider entering the Retailer Excellence Awards in the Marketing Achievement category. And in the meantime, join us at www.giftsanddec.com to take this week’s poll.

8. Editor's Note
You asked: "Can you please extend the entry deadline for GDA's Retailer Excellence Awards?"

We answered: "Of course. For our readers: anything!"

The new REA deadline is Friday, May 30. Click here for contest information, including categories, and to download entry forms.

To have an entry form faxed to you, please send a request to editorialdesk@reedbusiness.com. Good luck!
