There will be an impact on our industry from last month's tragic earthquake in China, according to last week's poll. About 28 percent of respondents believe that the biggest would be higher prices for manufacturers and consumers. Almost a quarter — 24 percent — anticipate shipment delays, while an optimistic 17 percent predict business as usual. About 14 percent expect that unfilled orders are the most likely consequence, and the same number expect increased relocation of manufacturing to other countries. However despite the need for workers to aid the displaced and rebuild the damaged areas, less than four percent of respondents felt the quake's biggest impact on the gift business would be a worsening of China's worker shortages.
