No question about it, today's retailers 'card' their guests (aka, customers). When asked in last week's poll if they accept credit cards, an overwhelming majority of respondents — 68.97 percent — accept MasterCard, Visa, AmEx or bank cards; virtually all the rest (24.14 percent) take just MasterCard and/or Visa. The remaining 6.9 percent card in the other sense — they will accept a personal check if a customer shows picture ID. Not a single respondent accepts cash only or bank cards only. The battle of the bags may still rage on, but when it comes to the checkout version of paper or plastic, plastic is definitely the winner.

Now that that’s settled, ‘checkout’ this week’s poll at www.giftsanddec.com.
