1. Bush Signs Stricter Safety Regs Into Law

2. Russ Sales Grow by Nearly One Fourth; Shining Stars Lead Gift Drop-Off
Oakland, NJ —Russ Berrie reported net sales for the second quarter of $87.7 million, an increase of 24 percent over last year’s $70.7 million second quarter. Net sales for the infant and juvenile segment increased 68.8 percent; the gift segment decreased 24.8 percent. <<Click to Continue>>

7. Your 2 Cents Worth
The gift industry is living for today: a whopping 62 percent of voters in last week’s poll said they don’t offer any kind of retirement plan for employees (and another optimistic 15 percent say their employees don’t retire.) Only 23 percent match contributions to a savings plan such as a 401(k); not a single reader offered a defined benefit pension or a savings plan without matching company contributions.
