Here's the news for the week of September 2, 2009

"All manufacturers, importers and distributors!

Exclusive survey — Help us identify market trends that will help your best customers get ready for 2010!

Gifts and Decorative Accessories needs your input to identify the most important market trends for 2010 by completing our online survey. It’s simple … and it’s quick!

If you’ve already completed the survey by fax or online, there is no need to complete it a second time. Results will appear in the December 2009 issue of Gifts and Decorative Accessories, just in time to guide retailers – your customers – as they go market. Your answers will be combined with those of others from across the industry to provide a composite view. As always, no individual company information will be published. We look forward to receiving your responses to the survey!

Thanks for your continued support. It helps us to better serve our industry and is truly appreciated.

Northeastern University’s Center for Family Business is pleased to partner with Dorset Partners for their September 9th program; “Identifying The Warning Signs of a Family Business in Crisis”.

David Sands, director at Dorset Partners LLC and former board member for the Tulane University Family Business Forum, will be working with family business owners and executives to help them stay out of trouble in this challenged economy. Dave will share his experiences of founding, building and transitioning his family business with the NEU Center members. Attendees will leave with an 84 point checklist enabling them to gauge the health of their family business.

Dave suggests that; "Family Businesses are complex entities where the financial health of the business can often be lost amongst the emotion of loved ones. Unless you challenge your business plan from an outsider’s aspect, you will often miss the warning signs of a business headed towards crisis. And there are very few things more challenging to family than a struggling business".

Dorset Partners LLC is a Corporate Revitalization Firm serving middle market companies. Specialties include Manufacturing, Retail, Distribution and Family owned businesses. From assessments to Turnarounds to complete financial restructuring, Dorset Partners brings decades of direct revitalization experience. www.DorsetPartners.com

About three quarters of retailers who voted in last week’s poll have a bathroom in their store, but who can use it varies. The majority (44 percent) permit both employees and customers access to the inner sanctum; one quarter keep it strictly for staff, and a mere 6 percent open their restrooms to the public.
